I am a law professor at Stanford, where I have taught for close to forty years. I am also Sam Bankman-Fried’s mother. Because of my professional life, I have witnessed the events of the past three years through two very different sets of eyes. Someday I may write about what it has been like to live through this experience as a parent. This Substack is mostly written through the eyes of a lawyer, challenging the government’s case against Sam and the other FTX defendants, its motivations for bringing them, and what was essentially a show trial of Sam. I have endeavored to hold myself to high professional standards of accuracy. Nonetheless, I recognize that my relationship to Sam inevitably casts doubt on my objectivity. I welcome the day when others without that obvious handicap will speak out on the issues raised here. In the meantime, most of what I say is confirmed by publicly available sources, and I have provided cites to them so readers can make up their own minds. If, as is inevitable, there are errors in what I say, I will happily correct them if readers bring them to my attention. You can reach me at barbarafried1110@gmail.com.

Please feel free to share the Substack with others who you think may be interested. - Barbara Fried
